ALBANY -- One of two former staff members who sued Columbia County's top attorney for sexual and political discrimination has settled for $120,000. Diana Kipp and Lisa Shallo Rinaolo brought their federal civil rights lawsuits in March against County Attorney William Better and Columbia County.

Before Saturday's settlement, Kipp had claimed that Better forced her to contribute to the local GOP, and was sexually harassed and stalked by him.

The status of Rinaolo's lawsuit isn't clear.

According to a written statement released Saturday, Kipp maintains her allegations are true but agrees to withdraw the lawsuit. The statement goes on to say that Better is not admitting any guilt by agreeing to the settlement.

Earlier, a lawyer representing Better said the charges are ``simply not true.''
