The unveiling of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. statue and dedication of the memorial will take place today in Lincoln Park, Morton Avenue and South Swan Street.

Martin Luther King III will be the guest speaker at the ceremony, which is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m., according to the Rev. Robert W. Dixon, presiding general chairman of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial of Albany, Inc. As part of the ceremony, South Swan Street from Morton to Myrtle avenues will be renamed "Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd," said Mayor Thomas M. Whalen III.

Also, the ceremony will feature selections from a choir comprised of singers from many area churches.

"I urge all of my fellow citizens to come to this exciting and historic event," said Whalen. "Let these special moments together be our inspiration to go forth and live Dr. King's ideals as never before."
